Music & Worship Ministry
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!” Psalm 100:4
We see in the Scriptures that God’s people are a worshipping people. Our church family comes together several times a week to worship God. We worship through giving, singing, serving, studying His Word, and by living our lives in full devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Although worship is not limited to just our singing, music does play an important role at Yellow Creek. Our Music and Worship Ministry offers our church family many opportunities to serve God and each other. Our goal is to cultivate hearts that long to worship our great God not just on Sundays, but every day of our lives.
Potential visitors are often curious about the “style” of our worship services. Hopefully, the following information will provide a clearer picture of what you can expect at Yellow Creek Baptist Church. We represent people from all walks of life, of different ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. However, we’re united as one in the Lord Jesus Christ – and desire to worship Him!
We sing songs that are biblically-centered and Christ-honoring. Our musical style may be best characterized as “blended,” meaning we enjoy everything from contemporary, traditional, southern gospel, black gospel, and more. We feel that style isn’t nearly as important as the One we’re singing about. Our musicians play many instruments, including piano, keyboards, drums, brass, woodwinds, guitars (and more) to accompany our worship services and special events.
Ultimately, our prayer is that when you attend a worship service at Yellow Creek, you’ll leave having spent time worshipping the One who is worthy of our praise – Jesus Christ.
Below are some of the opportunities available for you to get plugged-in to our Music and Worship Ministry:
God uses this group of worshippers to share the Gospel through song and lead our church family in worship. They sing in the Sunday morning worship services and for other special events and seasonal productions. Rehearsals are every Sunday afternoon. Rehearsal times change seasonally, so check your Sunday bulletin or call the church office for this week’s schedule. Worship Choir is open to high school age and up. Auditions are not required and sight-reading is not necessary, though it is helpful. All we require is a servant’s heart and a desire to lead our church family in worship! We’d love to see you in Worship Choir!
We have two children’s choirs that are grouped according to age. Our Preschool Choir is for ages 3-5 years, while our Kidz Choir is for children in Kindergarten through 4th grade. Both groups meet on Wednesday evenings and are led by wonderful volunteers. These choirs sing periodically in Sunday worship services, share seasonal musicals with our congregation, and have other events and activities throughout the school year.
We are blessed to have many talented instrumentalists who play for our Sunday worship services. We typically use instrumentation such as acoustic and/or electric guitar, piano, keyboard, drums, bass guitar, etc. If you’d be interested in playing, contact our Pastor of Music and Worship.
We utilize three technical teams in our worship services: Sound, Lights, and Media. If you would be interested in assisting with these roles or learning these skills, please let us know. This is a great opportunity for those who prefer to serve “behind the scenes.” No previous knowledge of our equipment is required since training is provided.
Our handbell choir plays for special services and seasonal events. They usually rehearse on Wednesday evenings and are led by Allison Price. If you’d like to be part of the handbell choir, contact our Pastor of Music and Worship, Nick Burke.
Yellow Creek has many very talented instrumentalists. Our orchestra plays from time to time for special events and services. Usually Christmas or Easter. This is a growing ministry, and we’re always looking for skilled musicians to add to our team. Though students are encouraged to play, those interested should be fairly proficient at their instrument and good sight-readers. If you’re interested, contact our Pastor of Music and Worship for more information.
