Dr. James Wedding – Senior Pastor
I began my journey with the Lord in January, 1974. Two months after being saved, I surrendered to the call to preach the unsearchable riches of God in Christ Jesus.
My journey with my life mate began in August, 1975 when I married Susan Thomas. Susan and I have been blessed with three beautiful Christian daughters: Jaime Suzanne and her husband, Nathan Gish, Leigh Ann and her husband, Andrew Moore, and Shannon Faith and her husband, Jared Kessinger. We have been enriched by the addition of six precious grandchildren: Ashlyn, Landon, Jaxton, Wyatt, Karlee, and Ethan. I praise God for my wonderful family!
I am a graduate of Clear Creek Baptist College with a bachelor’s in theology, Lincoln Memorial University with a bachelor’s in arts and humanities, and Trinity Theological Seminary with a master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees.
Susan and I began our journey with Yellow Creek Baptist Church in November, 2000. We have been very blessed to be partners with such a loving and caring family of faith. We want to extend an invitation for you to visit us. We would love to worship with you!
Rev. Nick Burke – Pastor of Music and Worship
God opened the door for me to serve at Yellow Creek in October of 2014. I’m blessed to be able to lead our church family in praise and worship as we meet together each week. I’ve served in full-time ministry since 2002 in Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia, having served as a youth, children’s and music minister.
At Yellow Creek, I have the pleasure of leading the worship choir, praise band and singers, as well as overseeing the sound, light, and media teams. Together, our desire is to create an atmosphere where our Yellow Creek family can worship the Lord together and prepare our hearts to hear from and serve Him!
Though I was born in Denver, Colorado, I spent most of my life living in sunny Florida. After becoming a Christian at the age of 17, I began serving the local church. I soon began to feel God calling me into full-time ministry and decided to attend Liberty University, where I earned my bachelor’s in music and religion. It was at Liberty where I met my beautiful wife, Alicia, while singing on a traveling ministry team. We’ve been married since 2007, and God has blessed us with two awesome daughters, Madison and Ella.
In my spare time I can usually be found spending time with my girls, cooking, “tinkering” around the house, and working in my yard. My wife and I also enjoy finding new restaurants and restoring old junk we find in thrift shops. Our favorite vacation spot is Anna Maria Island, FL, where we have family. In addition to the Bible, I enjoy reading books by Jim Cymbala and Dr. James Dobson. I also frequent Wikipedia.org, where I spend too much time reading about history, trivia, and other things no one else seems to care about.Send Nick an email
The Lord led me to serve in this role at Yellow Creek in January, 2007. I have the privilege of overseeing the church’s education and discipleship ministries, in addition to outreach and administration. Prior to my time at Yellow Creek, I served over ten years in other ministry positions, including youth, college & young adults, and music.
I am a native of Tennessee(!), having grown up just a few miles south of the Kentucky state line. I am married to my lovely and faithful bride, Beth, and we have one son, Henry. I studied biochemistry at Lipscomb University and worked as an analytical chemist before God called me into full-time ministry. I received ministry training at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where I earned the master of divinity, master of theology, and doctor of philosophy degrees.
I enjoy music, books, Baptist history, and spending time with my family. I am rather partial to good, strong coffee, and my favorite vacation spot is Prince Edward Island, Canada. In addition to studying the Bible, I enjoy reading blogs and researching my family history as time allows.Send Chris an email
I have been in ministry for over 50 years. I have held various positions over the years. Most of the time, music was my primary focus, but at times I also served in other roles, including minister of youth, education, and administration. My last twenty years of ministry have been at Yellow Creek where I served as Minister of Music and Senior Adults and created the Easter pageant, “The Living Cross.” In 2003, I retired as the full-time minister of music but continue to work part-time with the senior adults. I have loved every minute of it!
I could never have served so long in ministry without the help of my loving wife, Iva. It has always been “our ministry.” Iva and I have been blessed with three wonderful daughters, Ronda, Amy, and Kara, and our six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren have added a lot of joy to our lives.
I received training for my positions in ministry from Campbellsville University, University of Louisville, and Southern Seminary, as well as various conferences in my fields of service. I enjoy reading and writing. I blog about things from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. The blog is entitled, “How About When.” Stop by and read it at www.howaboutwhen.com.Send Ron an email
God has blessed me with the task of overseeing the ministries of family life and recreation at Yellow Creek. In addition, I help to administrate our Christian Life Center. I have served in this part-time capacity since May, 2011.
I was born and raised in southern Indiana and moved to Kentucky the day before my senior year of high school. I graduated a Scottie from Glasgow High School and then earned my bachelor of science degree from Western Kentucky University. I spent seven years in retail management for The Kroger Company before surrendering to full-time ministry in 1996. I received training for ministry at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where I earned my master of arts in Christian education, and I have spent the last seventeen years in ministry.
I am married to my wonderful wife, Cindy, and we have two children in whom we delight—Matthew and Elizabeth. I love hanging out with my family, especially at the beach. I am also an avid sports fan, and I really love to eat baby back ribs.Send Tom an email
Zach Burke – Minister of Youth
Zach is the newest addition to our pastoral team, having joined us to lead our student ministry in 2016. He began serving in ministry in 2010 and served churches in Kentucky, Florida and Tennessee before coming to Owensboro. His vision for the Yellow Creek Student Ministry is to help every student to take the next step in their journey with Jesus. His motto is: At YCSM we are family, we are authentic worshippers, we are difference makers, and we are disciples who make disciples.
Zach was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and lived there until the age of 20. He moved to South Florida to pursue his calling in student ministry. He plans to graduate in the spring of 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in ministerial leadership from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. Zach met his beautiful fiancée, Marlee, while living in Nashville, and they plan to be married in January of 2017.
Zach is a college sports fanatic and a comic book nerd all in one. He spends most fall Saturdays cheering for the University of Louisville and catching up on the latest issue of Captain America. He enjoys a good cup of coffee, a good lesson in history, and just being around people.Send Zach an email
